DREAMING 2007

This series of photos, DREAMING, is the result of the artist reworking his original, “pure” photos of the London underground train system taken in 2004, already seen in RESPIRATION 2004-2006 and the manipulated photographic close ups RESPIRATION 2007. 

Taylor takes us through a fantastic voyage of colour pixels; they are pixels that are transformed into multicoloured bubbles of a memory that almost take shape into figures and scenes.  Yet they dissolve before they take shape and become fibrous and structured, like dreams that are the fabric of our memories reworked into colours and moods in our dream life, asleep at night.

How this series DREAMING was generated can be best explained by the artist in his own words.  He explains he had not delved into photography before 2004 and was also averse to painting in daylight – he needed subdued or artificial light to create his works:

SO FOR ME, BEING IN THE SUBWAY IN LONDON WAS A HUGE STEP… WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT… HAD BEEN DREAMING ABOUT IT FOR SO LONG. TRYING TO IMAGINE WHAT WILL THE RESULT BE, I WANTED TO SHOOT SPEED OF LIGHT...

AND I TOOK THE SUBWAY BECAUSE NEVER USED TO WORK WITH DAY LIGHT... SO SUBWAY IS PERFECT FOR ME, ARTIFICIAL LIGHT AND LOTS OF PEOPLE. AN EXTRAORDINARY MIX OF ENERGY...

MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DURING THE DAY ARE USING THE TUBE IN LONDON, ABOUT 4 MILLION A DAY.... REALLY POWERFUL PLACE TO BE.. AND 5 PM ON A FRIDAY EVENING, EVEN MORE POWERFUL...

SO I LAY DOWN ON THE FLOOR AND SHOT THE TUBE ARRIVING AT ITS HIGHEST SPEED... THE RESULT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS DREAMING ABOUT….A RAY OF LIGHT, PURE ENERGY OF LIGHT. 

AND AFTER I HAD BEEN WORKING ALMOST 3 YEARS LIKE THAT... I TRIED TO PLAY WITH THEM. [the original series of photos, RESPIRATION 2004 – 2006]  ACTUALLY THE SAME WAY I AM PLAYING WITH PANELS OF MY PAINTINGS...

SO I STARTED TO PLAY WITH THE PIXELS OF SOME PIECES OF PHOTOGRAPHY... AND I ARRIVED AT MY DREAM... THE ONE I DREAMED AT THE BEGINNING… THE REAL DREAM.....

I FIND PEACE IN THIS COLLECTION.... FEEL IN COMPLETE PEACE.....
