CITY PRS 2008

Taylor wandered around the streets of Paris in much the same way as he did in London and Berlin in 2007.   He was on a journey of discovery, looking for iconic architecture and outdoor sculptures that he could use as “raw material”, contorting them via his photographic technique and final production with computer software in Geneva.

Here we recognize and fail to recognize the Pompidou Centre, the Baldaccini outdoor sculpture, “La pouce” and of course the iconic Eiffel Tower.  The artist mixes these constructions and public works of art with the mundane and ordinary office blocks that he also photographs in the La Défense quarter.

It is a pure and fascinating artistic reproduction of surfaces and shapes, changing our perspective of well-known buildings and artworks.  As in his other photographic series, Taylor continues his trademark theme of the organic and the constructed, showing us our humanity in a surprising light, by juxtaposing it with man-made objects and “inhuman” surfaces and forms.
